Wake Up Little Susie

You ever get stuck? You kinda forget yourself for a bit? That’s been my recent journey. Honestly, I thought I was busy… I thought I was doing things. Slowly, my house was getting uncluttered… groceries were still in the fridge… clothes were clean and in the closet. But somewhere along the way, I FORGOT who I was and what I was doing… I forgot the mission… I forgot my why.

Slowly, we started eating out more and cooking from home less… we bought our veggies from the grocery instead of across the street from the Amish… we Amazoned things instead of making them. It’s easy to fall back into old patterns when that’s what you know. I’ve learned along this life journey, to give myself grace when I “wake up” from such nonsense and realign myself with my purpose. I was not MADE to kill my body with the chemicals of groceries (extreme, I know… when you’ve had cancer for 4 years, you tend to pay attention to how all the little things add up.)

This week I meal planned for the first time in forever; to include everything made from scratch. My meal plan has places on it that says “Veggies from amish garden” as the vegetables for the meal… whatever they have that day, is what will be our dinner (along with some protein). I am sourcing as much locally homegrown as possible! This not only puts healing back into my hands (I’m on a healing with food journey), BUT it has opened the door for my adult children to come back to enjoy dinners with us again which I LOVE with every fiber of my being!

(Okay, side note: as I was writing this, Jason came home from the farm across the street and brought me 3 HUGE bags of fresh produce and a box of fresh peaches! Though I have meal planned, I will revise it to fit the veggies I now have on hand, also I see some peach cobbler in my future! And possibly some peach pancakes for breakfast tomorrow!)

Somewhere along the way I even quit making my own coffee… which I feel is pretty basic and not even homesteading… just good stewardship. Today, my wonderful Red Hot Roasters is delicious! I’d forgotten how yummy it is.

I’m thankful for Percy (my middle) who got me back on track with this homestead journey. She reminded me of who I was and what I was doing. Which in turn, reminded me of my mission:

My mission is to love myself and my family enough to make food from scratch, using as many products fresh from the farm as possible, to include meats, veggies, fruits, butters, and all else. To live in a home well loved, where people are valued, heard, and healed; while using old fashioned methods to slow down and enjoy life and each other. To cultivate a community of people, from various backgrounds and journeys of life, to come together and share life with each other as a sisterhood/brotherhood. To live a life of interdependence as opposed to independence within my community.
